Hospital Awards Scholarships: Athol Memorial Hospital recently awarded scholarships to area students who are pursuing fields of study in clinical healthcare careers. Four recipients, Kerry Chenausky, Jaime Curtis, Melissa Newton and Sarah Robichaud, all Athol residents, are members of Athol High School’s 2006 graduating class. The other two recipients, Kaitlyn Lemoine of Orange, is a 2003 graduate of Saint Bernard’s High School in Fitchburg and Charlene Softic of Athol, is a 1992 graduate of Athol High School. Kaitlyn Lemoine will continue nursing studies at Fitchburg State College; Melissa Newton and Sarah Robichaud will begin nursing studies at Endicott College in Beverly and Salem State College, respectively; and Charlene Softic will continue nursing studies at Mount Wachusett Community College. Kerry Chenausky will attend Simmons College in Boston, in preparation for medical studies, and Jaime Curtis will pursue degrees in Athletic Training and Physical Therapy at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. Each of the students will receive $500 toward their educational expenses.

The purpose of the Athol Memorial Hospital Scholarship Program is to encourage area residents to enter and train in the clinical healthcare fields. Scholarships are available to residents of the hospital’s service area and are awarded on a combination of academic achievement, extracurricular and community activities, references and essays. “We wish all the recipients well in achieving their medical goals” stated Jim Meehan, the Hospital’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees, “and hope they will consider returning to Athol Memorial Hospital in their future plans.”
