Progress Notes
Hospital Recognized
Athol Memorial Hospital was recently
recognized by the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts Board of Registration
in Medicine (BORIM) Patient Care
Assessment (PCA) Division “as having
demonstrated …effective quality
improvement and patient safety
systems designed to ensure that
patients receive the highest quality
of care.” The hospital was one of
only seventeen hospitals in the
state to earn this distinction,
which is noted on the front page of
the BORIM PCA’s August newsletter.
The article cites Athol Memorial
Hospital’s collaboration with the
PCA Division to provide excellence
in caring for patients in the
Commonwealth. Participation involves
submitting evidence-based reports on
patient quality safety systems,
review and investigation, data
analysis, and implementation of
performance improvement measures.
This recognition emphasizes Athol
Memorial Hospital’s adherence to
rigorous safety and patient care
standards.
Lucille Songer, RN, MS, Chief
Nursing Officer and Risk Management
Manager commented “Athol Memorial
Hospital is very proud of this
achievement, especially being one of
only seventeen hospitals in the
state to do so.”
Athol Memorial Hospital is 25 bed
not-for-profit acute care and
outpatient facility serving the
communities of the North Quabbin
region since 1950. It is designated
as a Critical Access Hospital and
Primary Stroke Center, licensed by
the Massachusetts Department of
Public Health and accredited by the
