The hospital initiated the Healthcare Career Scholarship Program in 2006 to encourage local area students to enter the healthcare field. Applicants must be residents of the hospital service area and entering, or matriculating toward, a degree in a healthcare related field. Recipients were chosen based on academic excellence, community service, and experience in healthcare related activities.

This year’s winners are Jennifer Bacigalupo, Alyssa Cass, Bryce Cass, Caitlin Cotter, Laura Godin, Jeffery Kuniholm, Melissa Newton, Sara Newton, Sara Robichaud, and Jordyn Thiem, all of Athol, MA; Nichole LeBlanc of Petersham, MA; Shannah Lively of Royalston, MA; Matthew Spear of New Salem, MA; and Keagan Wells and Alyssa Wilson of Orange, MA.

“This year’s choice was very difficult,” explained James Meehan, Athol Memorial Hospital’s Chairman of the Board and head of the Scholarship Selection Committee. “We had so many deserving and outstanding individuals apply.”
